Audio-Visual Team’s visit to Mer Doon

On the 27th of February “Audio-Visual” NGO’s Team conducted a workshop for social and public organization Mer Doon’s residents, located in Echmiadzin. The themes of workshop were two: “Human Trafficking – motivations, developments, legislative settings” and “Man as a social problem bearer – personal analysis, targeted questions, solutions of nominations”.

The workshop was provided by “Association of Audio-Visual Reporters” NGO president, director, social advertising specialist Arzuman Harutyunyan and senior investigator of criminal investigation department of RA Investigative Committee, doctor of law, professor Davit Tumasyan.

“Mer Doon” is founded in 2006, by Tigranuhi Karapetyan’s efforts. Years ago she aimed and implemented a project for 18 years orphan girls to bring them together in one home, train, educate them and help to get some professional skills.

Residents of this kind of organizations are very vulnerable to trafficking, and Audio-Visual Team is always vigilant to public awareness questions for such kind of groups.

Audio-Visual Team regularly visits Mer Doon’s residents in a framework of different public awareness campaign, so this time visit wasn’t accidental.

The workshop’s format consisted from two sections. First, David Tumasyan introduced the concept of recently adopted law about protection of human trafficking victims in Armenia, then represented local and international general legislation, terms and legislation development history, rights of potential victim, and the ways to avoid dangerous situations, as well as principles of cooperation with legal system and sources potential victim should use in a case of danger.

Also reference was made to the terminology issues, which was detailed explained. One of the most important parts of David’s speech were discussing and debated, different questions and answers…

The second part of workshop was held by Arzuman Harutyunyan, who represented during his speech whole way of dedicated to trafficking PSA creating, from initial idea, right way of working with customer, proper use of trafficking term and symbols, up to broadcasting.

Master-class was held in warm interactive atmosphere. Presentation was structured the way, so the audience could take part in all stages of PSA creation from spreading information about trafficking term, up to competent coverage and prevention features.

PSAs shown during the master-class were made by “Association of Audio-Visual Reporters” NGO during different years and projects, especially “Anti-trafficking Information Platform in Armenia” awareness rising and journalists competence training project. Each video was discussed and analyzed.
