Human Trafficking. New Law and Approaches

2 days’ workshop was held in Aghveran about the problem of human trafficking for journalists and media representatives. The meeting was organized by ‘’Association of Audio-Visual Reporters’’ team, during which team and the experts spoke about the professional work of journalists, writing about human trafficking. The main purpose of the seminar was the coverage and the popularization of the new law by the help of media representatives.  To provide a comprehensive approach for the aim of the training the representatives of state structures and media representatives were invited: in many cases they are the primary sources of information.
The special guests of the training were Vahram Kazhoyan (Head of The Anti-trafficking working group in RA), Maritsa Hovhannisyan (INL Program Assistant), Lusine Hakobyan (Secretary of The Anti-trafficking working group in RA), Arthur Ghambaryan (Deputy Chairman of the Investigative Committee of RA, Doctor of Law, Professor) and Sona Truzyan (Assistant Chairman of the Investigative Committee of RA).

The experts of the training were David Tumasyan (The senior investigator of The Investigative Committee department for assistance in handling criminal cases, Candidate of Legal Sciences, Associate Professor), Nver Sargsyan (An independent expert), Eleonora Virapyan (Expert of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs), Victoria Avakova (The project coordinator of “UMCOR Armenia” NGO), Artyom Poghosyan (Member of the Working Group on Combating Trafficking in Armenia), Maria Shatvoyan (The project coordinator of “Hope and Help” NGO) and Arzuman Harutyunyan (The President of “Audio-Visual Association of Reporters” NGO).

Here was spoken about the support of victims, the exploration of people, personal data protection and about the support programs for the victims of human trafficking. It was presented how and where to find information about the victims. During the 2 days seminar the Mass Media Representatives found out how the victim can get the help.
During the training, the experts explained how and where to get information and how to accurately deliver that information to the public.  At the workshop the experts presented statistical data and orientation of victims of trafficking. It was also discussed about the professional skills of the journalist in order not to harm the victim, taking into consideration all his/her psychological complexes. The matters were discussed not only about sex but also labor trafficking. A great number of questions were asked during the seminar, which received their clear answers. The meeting was held in a professional atmosphere with active discussions, training, questionings and professional consultations. The participants asked different kind of questions concerning to Human trafficking. All the questions got their answers. A professional journalist, who has already had an experience by working with a sex trafficking victim during her professional activity, shared her experience and knowledge with her colleagues.  Here were presented 3 videos for the operators and photographers and radio program producers while working with a victim of human trafficking.

At the end of the workshop the experts summed up the training. Here was clear that the workshop was effected and successful and served for its purpose. The very last sentences of the meeting were the thankful messages to the US Embassy Agency on Drug prevention and cooperation with law enforcement bodies.
