Sputnik Armenia: The government of Georgia will start issuing compensation to victims of human trafficking

The provision of a one-time state compensation will be a sufficient condition for granting a person the status of a victim.
Victims of trafficking will receive compensation at a time, regardless of whether a court is being held for damages in accordance with civil procedural legislation.

After consideration, the relevant amendments, initiated by the Chairman of the Human Rights Committee Mikhail Sardzhveladze, will be introduced into the “Law on Combating Human Trafficking”. The amount of compensation, according to the bill, is one thousand lari (almost $ 300).

The bill stipulates that the provision of a one-time state compensation will be a sufficient condition for granting a person the status of a victim. According to the amendments, receiving state compensation does not deprive the victim of the right to apply to the court for damage compensation.

At the same time, the amendment clarifies the procedure for assigning a victim status to a person by a special group. Namely, this group resolves the relevant issue no later than 48 hours after receiving information about the alleged victim after contacting a shelter or other appropriate institution.
