Superior Honour Award to Maritsa Hovhannisyan for significant contribution in the fight against trafficking

On September 23 International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL) Program Team hosted a reception to celebrate Armenia’s counter- TIP achievements and encourage the TIP Working Group to continue its vigorous fight against this evil.

U.S. Embassy Charge d ’Affairs Clark Price, Ambassador Vahram Kazhoyan and other members of the U.S Embassy and Armenia Anti- Trafficking-in-Persons Working Group (TIP WG) members were present. Among different achievements acknowledged by the group, the participants also learnt about Maritsa Hovhannisyan’ s award recently announced by the European Bureau Awards Committee of the Department of State, which selected her as the EUR and IO runner- up for the FSN of the Year Award. She will receive a Superior Honor Award.

The award was given for sustained high level performance over a long period of time, achievement of tangible and meaningful results. When working on difficult social issues like TIP real progress is often hard to see. Over several years Maritsa has extensively worked to help achieve results through counter-TIP assistance programs, and contributed to building government and civil society cooperation, and significant developments in this area. As Maritsa stated in her remarks “My achievements would not have happened without great support from my colleagues and the awesome team of the TIP WG.”
