Migration and trafficking by the language of art

On May 27, “Armenian Caritas” benevolent NGO (benevolent non-governmental organization) organized an exhibition in state College of fine arts after P. Terlemezyan, at which the works of students of the college were presented. Students tried to express their understanding of migration and trafficking by the language of expressive arts.

As the organizers mention, the topics of migration and trafficking have always been talked about in different platforms and at different levels.

However, these topics include greater emotional charge and get other nuances through the artist’s eyes.

Before the exhibition in the frames of “Two Little Girls” and “Amazing Europe” project migration and trafficking films were shown and also a discussion was held on these topics for college students.

As a result, 42 participants presented 53 works, which included fine arts, graphics, sculpture and escalations.

The selection committee consisted of six members college art history professor Elena Movsisyan, an independent expert Yulia Brumer, directors of projects of “Armenian Caritas” benevolent NGO Movses Hakobyan, Aram Khachaturian, project coordinator  Gohar Yeranyan, project accountant  Stella Voskanyants have estimated the works by the scale of 1 to 5 according to the three criteria developed beforehand.

1. Relevance to the topic;

2. Clarity of the message;

3. Availability of creative approach.

As a result of evaluations of jury members the best works on the subject of “Trafficking” were the following ones.

I place “Slaves Chorus” canvas of Gor Arushanyan;

II place “Trafficking” canvas of Gayane Avetisyan;

III place “Trafficking” canvas of Mane Artashesyan and Shushan Hambardzumyan;

The best works on the subject of “Migration” were the following ones.

I place “Reintegration” canvas of Irina Arzumanyan;

II place “Look into the Past” canvas by Mary Torgomian.

However, participants who did not win, have received incentive awards, and what is more important, their works would be used in future activities of “Armenian Caritas”.
