Community policing- new credible approach in Armenian reality

On 14th of October, a round table discussion took place with the topic “Community policing in USA” organized by US Embassy in Armenia. The guest and the speaker of the round table was Professor Danny Bass, who for many years worked in criminal justice and criminology field and currently lectures in Gwyneth College of the US State of Georgia. The aim of the round table was to introduce the Armenian NGO-s the essence of community policing, which contributes to the coordinated partnership, development of strategies towards the preventive solution to the problems.

The round table discussion was attended by NGO lawyers, specialists in civil and criminal law, the active participation and interest of which has contributed to the understanding of community policing from analytical point of view. Participants further discussed the US police system, the framework of activities and responsibilities as compared with the US states or city police. Also discussed were the preconditions necessary for the establishment of community policy in the society. One of such preconditions is the strong democracy, in the context of which the participants analyzed the practicality of the community policing.
