Let’s give hope to all human trafficking victims!!

The second annual World Day against Trafficking in Persons is being marked on 30 July 2015.

Every year on this day the United Nations (UN) promotes World day Against Trafficking in Persons. Human trafficking affects every country in the world and at least 2.5 million people are trapped in modern-day slavery, according to UN.

In 2014, the #igivehope campaign was launched to raise awareness around human trafficking and provide everyday people with a way to show solidarity with the victims most affected by this crime. This year, we’re encouraging people across the globe to take part in the campaign and share it with their friends, families and communities ahead of the 2015 World Day against Trafficking in Persons, 30 July.

Armenia also has joined its forces for the #‎BlueHeart‬ Campaign. The Government of Armenia fully complies with the minimum standards for the elimination of Trafficking. The Inter-Agency Working Group to combat Trafficking in Human Beings (IAWG THB) has been actively continuing its work to guarantee the Tier 1 placement for Armenia. This year Armenia once more has been categorized in the 1Tier of countries combating with human trafficking by U.S. Department of States’ annual Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report. The IAWG THB also has received the Universal Rights Awards in the “Government Reformer” Category for its anti-trafficking work.

To mark this special day, the Principals of eight of the world’s key organizations working to tackle this crime have come together to issue a special statement – 2015 World Day against Trafficking in Persons: ICAT Video Statement.

Together, these eight heads of organizations are urging more to be done to help the millions of women, men and children who fall victim to one of today’s most brutal crimes, and to join forces to improve trafficked persons’ access to remedies that respond to their individual needs.

In 2010, the General Assembly adopted the Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons, urging Governments worldwide to take coordinated and consistent measures to defeat this scourge. The Plan calls for integrating the fight against human trafficking into the UN’s broader programs in order to boost development and strengthen security worldwide. One of the crucial provisions in the Plan is the establishment of a UN Voluntary Trust Fund for victims of trafficking, especially women and children.

In 2013, the General Assembly held a high-level meeting to appraise the Global Plan of Action. Member States also adopted resolution A/RES/68/192 and designated July 30 as the World Day against Trafficking in Persons. This resolution declared that such a day was necessary to “raise awareness of the situation of victims of human trafficking and for the promotion and protection of their rights.”
