Slavery is not only in the pages of history, unfortunately, it is also a reality today.
December 2 is celebrated worldwide as “International Day Against Slavery”. On that day in 1949, the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention for the Suppression of Trafficking in Persons and Sexual Exploitation.
Human trafficking, sexual exploitation, worst forms of child labor, sale of brides, forced recruitment of children for use in armed conflicts… the advice of the day is to draw public attention to these forms of modern slavery.
It is often possible to avoid being trafficked if you are aware of the dangers that can be hidden by a tempting job offer or the prospect of a prosperous life.
