IOM: New Report Highlights Labour Exploitation and Human Trafficking Risks Among Migrant Workers in Armenia

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) published a new report in February 2026 titled “Assessment on Labour Migration and Trafficking in Persons in the Republic of Armenia,” examining the working conditions, rights, and exploitation risks faced by migrant workers in Armenia.

According to the assessment, 59.3% of surveyed male migrants and 63% of female migrants reported having written employment contracts, while 13.8% of respondents had irregular migration status.

The report identifies several risks associated with labour exploitation, including unpaid wages, deceptive recruitment practices, passport confiscation, unsafe working conditions, and debt bondage.

The assessment emphasizes the importance of strengthening labour inspections, improving oversight of recruitment agencies, raising awareness of migrant workers’ rights, and enhancing mechanisms for identifying and supporting potential trafficking victims.

The findings provide valuable insights for policymakers, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders working to prevent human trafficking and protect migrant workers in Armenia.
