A foreigner received 12 years in prison in Georgia for trafficking

Three victims were deprived of their passports and forced into prostitution․
The Zestafoni District Court found the foreigner guilty of human trafficking and sentenced him to 12 years in prison, the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia reported.

The victims of the criminal were three Thai citizens, who were promised a job in a beauty salon in the Georgian Black Sea city of Batumi by one of the Thai employment agencies. In Georgia, they were met by a foreigner now sentenced to prison and taken to a completely different city.

“The accused placed the victims in a house he temporarily used in Zestafoni, after which he took away their passports and did not allow them to move independently,” the press service said in a statement.

Through threats and psychological pressure, the accused forced the victims to provide sexual services to citizens of foreign countries for a fee. He appropriated a significant portion of the money earned as a result of exploitation.

The foreigner was charged with human trafficking committed against two or more persons.

The prosecutor’s office did not specify whether the victims were women or men.

As the department noted, the Georgian prosecutor’s office pursues a strict criminal policy regarding crimes of this category, which it will continue in the future.
